Merge duplicate contacts
Find repeated contacts, review what each entry holds and merge them into one without losing numbers, emails or notes. iPhone and Android.
At a glance
- Finds contacts with the same name, number or email across accounts
- Shows every field before merging so nothing is lost
- Merges into a single entry that keeps all numbers, emails and notes
- Works with iCloud, Google and SIM contacts as your phone exposes them
- iPhone and Android
Duplicate contacts are what happens when a phone has had more than one account, more than one previous phone, or more than one messaging app. Each source saves the same person again, and the address book slowly fills with “Mom”, “Mom (2)” and “Mom Mobile”.
TuckVault’s contact merger finds those overlaps, shows every field in each entry and combines them into one — keeping all the numbers, emails and notes.
How it works
- Open Cleanup → Duplicate contacts. The app groups contacts that share a name, number or email.
- Review each group. Every field from every entry is shown. Nothing is hidden behind a “merge” button.
- Merge. The result is one contact with the union of all the details. Where two entries disagree (two spellings of a name), you pick.
- Done. The duplicates are removed; the merged contact stays in your main account.
What to check before merging
- Two people, one number. A shared family landline can make two different people look like duplicates. The review step is where you spot this.
- Work vs personal. Some people prefer separate entries for the same person in work and personal accounts. Skip those groups.
- Back up first. iCloud and Google keep contacts backed up automatically; if you rely on a local or SIM-only setup, export your contacts before a large merge.
Why contacts are part of a storage cleaner
They do not take up space, but they take up attention — and a clean address book is part of the same routine as a clean camera roll. Start with the full iPhone storage checklist or the Android storage cleaner.
Lock what's private. Clear what isn't.
TuckVault keeps your private photos, videos and documents behind a PIN or pattern with AES encryption on your device — and cleans up duplicates, large videos and messy contacts on the same phone. Free to download for iPhone and Android.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I have duplicate contacts in the first place?
Usually because the same person is saved in two accounts (iCloud and Google, or a work account), was imported from an old phone or SIM, or was saved from a messaging app that created its own entry. Each source is correct on its own; together they overlap.
Will merging delete a phone number?
No. A merge keeps every distinct number, email and note from the entries you combine. If two entries disagree on a name, the app shows both and you choose.
Can I undo a merge?
Review the combined contact before confirming — that is the safe point. After a merge, the duplicates are removed and the merged entry remains. Keep a contacts backup (iCloud, Google or an export) before a large cleanup.
Does iPhone do this itself?
iOS 16 and later shows a Duplicates Found card in Contacts for exact-name matches. It misses many real duplicates (different name spellings, same number under two names). TuckVault matches on number and email as well as name.
